🤔 Which platform for what
No sales pitch — what is worth knowing before you choose
| Platform | Best for | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress | anything from a business site to a shop | standard shared hosting |
| WooCommerce (a WordPress plugin) |
a shop with up to a few hundred products | standard hosting, a slightly stronger plan |
| OpenCart | a pure shop, no blog needed | standard hosting |
| PrestaShop | a shop with many variants and rules | stronger hosting |
| Joomla | complex content structures | standard hosting |
About Magento — honestly
It is a system for large retailers — it needs a dedicated server with a lot of memory, maintenance by a developer, and usually a team working with it every day.
For a small or medium Macedonian business it is almost always the wrong choice: a shop with two hundred products on Magento costs more to maintain than it brings in, and the same can be done on WooCommerce or OpenCart for a fraction of the cost.
If you already have Magento — call us and we will see what is needed. But we do not recommend it for new projects of this size.
Wix and Shopify
They are not here either, but for a different reason: they are not installed on hosting — the website lives on their platform.
In practice, for Macedonia: Shopify Payments does not work here, and connecting to a local bank needs an intermediary. Many people only find out after they have built the shop.
If you sell by card in Macedonia, a local platform with a CPay module is simpler.
The question that matters more than the platform
“Who will maintain it?”
Each of these systems needs updates, backups and attention. The best platform without a caretaker becomes a problem within a year.
If you have no one — choose the simplest one that does the job, or arrange maintenance.
❓ Your platform is not listed
These four cover most of the websites we host. If you use something else — Drupal, Magento, or a custom system — give us a call.
If the same question comes up with several clients, it is worth writing a guide for it too.
